About the President’s Volunteer Service Award

In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation. Led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program allows Certifying Organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers.

We've been around since 2008 and since then, our volunteer tutors have helped students from low-income households and foster organizations excel in subjects ranging from basic math and reading comprehension to chemistry and precalculus.

Co-Founder

Aaron Scott

Aaron Scott is a co-founder of Tutor Volunteer, driven by his passion for community building and social change. Growing up in a close-knit family, Aaron learned early on the importance of giving back and building strong relationships. After completing his undergraduate degree in business, Aaron co-founded Tutor Volunteer with Emma Carter to create a platform for people to share their talents and make a positive impact. As a co-founder, Aaron is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensuring that it remains true to its mission.

Emma Carter

Emma Carter is a co-founder of Tutor Volunteer and has always been passionate about creating opportunities for people to come together and make a difference. Emma's background in community organizing and event planning inspired her to co-found Tutor Volunteer with Aaron Scott. As a co-founder, Emma is responsible for developing the organization's strategic vision and overseeing its growth and development. Her creativity and strategic thinking have been instrumental in driving the success of Tutor Volunteer.

Outreach Director

Olivia Williams

Olivia Williams is the Outreach Director at Tutor Volunteer and is responsible for building relationships with community partners, promoting the organization's mission, and identifying new opportunities for growth. Olivia's background in marketing and communications and her passion for social change led her to join Tutor Volunteer shortly after its founding. She has since become a key member of the team, using her skills to raise awareness about the organization and build strong partnerships with local organizations and charities.

Volunteer Director

Mostafa Amir

Mostafa Amir is a U.S. Marine and the Volunteer Director at Tutor Volunteer. In this role, he oversees the organization's volunteer program, identifying new opportunities and ensuring that volunteers have a positive and fulfilling experience. Having joined the team in 2021, Mostafa has generously volunteered over 3000 hours of his time and was honored with the esteemed Presidential Life Time Achievement Award in 2023. Mostafa's true passion lies in connecting individuals with meaningful opportunities to make a difference. His dedication has been instrumental in building a strong and committed team of volunteers at Tutor Volunteer. By fostering a sense of purpose and empowerment, he inspires others to contribute their skills and time towards creating positive change in society. Mostafa's leadership has been pivotal in transforming Tutor Volunteer into a force for good, impacting the lives of countless individuals through educational support.
